Ben Chilwell: Chelsea complete signing of Leicester Left Back on 50m deal

Chelsea have completed the signing of Ben Chilwell on a five year deal for a fee of £50m ($66m),with the full back parting ways with the Foxes following their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Chelsea’s most expensive defender has this to say in an interview with the club
“I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club,” Chilwell told Chelsea’s website. “I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.”

The club’s director Marina Grannovskaia complemented the statement of Chilwell with the following remark
“We are very pleased to have completed our third addition to our exciting squad for the coming season. Ben brings plenty of top-level experience playing in the Premier League, Champions League and at international level, despite his young age.

“We are confident Ben will adapt very quickly to being a Chelsea player and with the fixture programme for 2020-21 especially busy, he is a fantastic addition to the squad needed to challenge for honours”.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea  conceded 54 goals in 2019/20 season and in a bid this overhaul his goals-conceding defence line,he spotted the left back wing as an utmost priority. The England international who was left out of England’s squad for next week’s Nations League matches due to injury has been a long time target for Chelsea’s boss as he his seen as the most suitable to occupy the left back position.

The 23 year old arrival at Stamford Bridge takes Chelsea’s spending in this transfer window to around £130m following the signing of £47m Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, £33m Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva on a free agent. Chelsea are also on the verge of an agreement with Bayern Leverkusen over a £90m Kai Havertz deal. Landing 21 year old Havertz will amount to Chelsea spending over £200m for recruitment in this busy summer transfer.

Frank Lampard has made quite tremendous effort to transform and strengthen his last season’s squad with the signing of Chilwell, Werner and Co. The big question is whether his newly assembled team will prove doubters wrong and bring honours to the club this coming season.
