MLS side DC United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil ahead of the January transfer window.
The playmaker, who is the club’s highest earner at £350,000 per week, has been frozen out by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta after he was omitted from his Premier League and Europa League squads.
Ozil’s contract at the Emirates in the summer and he has received a serious offer from DC United, according to Turkish broadcaster NTV Spor.
The report claims that the 32-year-old is, however, also weighing up a move to Italy, Qatar or Saudi Arabia as his deal in north London runs down.
Former Manchester United, England and Everton star Wayne Rooney enjoyed a two-year stint at DC United, notching 25 goals in 52 games.
The US outfit have been linked with a move for Ozil in the past and the midfielder can speak to other clubs in January when he has just six months remaining at Arsenal.
Ozil last played for the Gunners in a 1-0 win over West Ham on March 7, prior to the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This season Arteta’s side have been crying out for creativity in behind the frontline as they’ve struggled for goals.
The Gunners suffered their sixth defeat of the Premier League campaign last Sunday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat by north London rivals Tottenham. They’re currently in 15th place and have scored just 10 goals in 11 matches.
