Barcelona’s defence in recent times has been nothing to write home about, succumbing to pressure when it matters most. Amidst these defensive woes is Ronald Araujo,a solid defender promoted from la masia last season and has since then made it clear he is here to stay and could even be the successor to pique if he keeps these fine performances on.
Ten matches now and he’s not been dribbled past,a very good statistic for a player of such young age although he’s been mostly let down by his other defensive partners. Clément Lenglet has been a shadow of himself and currently does not seem up to standard to play at a club like Barcelona. Pique has lost his pace and almost anyone with speed can dribble past him,Oscar Mingueza has been inconsistent and Umtiti is no longer world class.
A pairing of the Uruguayan with the sought after Eric Garcia from Manchester City should do the trick though but it’s all on paper, what happens on the pictch matters.
With pique sidelined due to injury,Barcelona’s defensive issues does not seem to have a solution at the moment and there’s very little Araujo can do to salvage the situation.
