Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could be on his way out of the Manchester outfit come May 2021. De Gea who joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 following the retirement of Edwin Van Der Sar has had tales of woes overshadow his super performances for United in recent times.
Stellar prior to the inception of the 2018/2019 season, winning the Matt Busby player of the year award(a mean feat for anyone, let alone a goalkeeper) 4 times and piggybacking the team to several trophies and achievements, De Gea has been largely underwhelming by his standards.
He has conceded over 10 errors leading to goals amidst a host of other costly mistakes. Whether or not to keep him has caused a division among the fans as some want him gone and others Want him rewarded for his loyalty over the years. The emergence of Dean Henderson who has defied all odds and risen through the ranks has also put pressure on De Gea as questions of his dispensability have come up time and again.
David De Gea has not featured for United in the last 6 games as he had to travel to Spain to witness the birth of his first son. He was prevented from joining up with the team on his return due to COVID restrictions and Henderson has impressed in his absence.
The manner of De Gea’s exit is unknown at the moment. He could either be ushered out hi outright or released. Whatever the method, we might not see De Gea in a United Jersey come next season.
