Klopp insists Liverpool are ‘not on a revenge tour’ ahead of Real Madrid showdown

Liverpool Gaffer Jurgen Klopp has stated that he and his boys are not in for vengeance in their UEFA Champions League Quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. Spanish Giants Real Madrid has previously beaten Liverpool 3-1 in the 2018 Final – a match that sealed a treble of consecutive UCL trophies for Real and also turned out to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last for the club.

“We are not on a revenge tour here. Life is like this. I don’t believe too much in revenge, but it would be nice to get through,” he said at Monday’s pre-match news conference.
“We feel in a good moment in the Premier League. Now we hope to keep that momentum. That would be very helpful. Our motivation is at the highest level because it is the Champions League and we want to go to the next round, it has nothing to do with 2018”.

He however admitted that the fixture comes with what serves as a memento of the last encounter both teams had. According to him, “When we got the draw, because it is the first time that we played them since then, I remembered the game.”

It would be remembered that Mohammed Salah left the field in tears on that day after he developed a shoulder injury from a Sergio Ramos tackle. Sergio Ramos on the other hand will not be available for both legs of the tie and so would Raphael Varane who today tested positive to the Coronavirus test he had.

Zidane’s plans ahead of the game remains unknown but we do know that he has a big headache and a lot of brain racking to do ahead of the game.
