Kevin De Bruyne signs new contract

Belgian Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has finally put pen to paper with Manchester City. The news of his signature was announced by Manchester City in the early hours of today following a 2-1 Home win against Bavarians Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League Quarter-final first leg.

Signed by Manuel Pellergrini from Germans Wolfsburg in 2015, Kevin De Bruyne has been more than Stellar for City. Scoring 65 goals and notching up 105 assists in 255 games for them.

De Bruyne has stalled on a new contract for the past few years and rumours about his desire to not sign a new contract was even intensified after City were “banned” from All European competitions after evidence that they violated Financial Fair Play rules came to light in 2019.

Kevin has however signed a new contract until 2025 which means that he would have spent a decade at the club if he sees off the contract. Kevin De Bruyne could win his 3rd Premier League title with Manchester City but he is hungry to add the UCL-the only trophy missed in his CV to his trophy cabinet.

He said:

“Pep and I see football in the same way. Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned, and we want the same things.

“This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision.

“I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come”

De Bruyne has had a silverware laden career at City and he has had a few personal accolades to his name. At City, he has won

According to Fabrizio Romano, De Bruyne negotiated his contract all by himself and without the aid of any agent. On a lighter note, it suggests that while De Bruyne likes to assist a lot, he doesn’t like to be assisted. City will be smiling with the seal of this deal. They however still have the contracts of Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden to negotiate.
