Chelsea’s pre-season camp in Ireland forced to abrupt end

UCL winners Chelsea’s pre-season camp in the Republic of Ireland has been forced to stop early due to a probable positive Covid-19 test from one of their players

The Blues’ planned behind-closed-doors friendly versus Drogheda United on Thursday night was canceled at the last minute, and they instead played an in-house contest.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw between the two Chelsea teams, with goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Armando Broja.

Following that match, in which the player in issue did not participate and is now isolating himself from the rest of the group, the decision has been made to return to London and conclude the camp four days early.

‘With the cancellation of last night’s friendly game, the team’s training camp has returned to the club’s training facility early to begin preparations for the game against Bournemouth,’ according to a club statement.

On Tuesday, that encounter will take place in front of a live audience at the Vitality Stadium.
The Blues have a hectic preseason schedule ahead of them, with friendlies against Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as a UEFA Super Cup match against Villarreal three days before their league opener against Crystal Palace.

Tuchel could do without the current snarl, with Chelsea already missing a number of first-team players due to their participation in international service during the summer.

The Blues had 17 players at the Euros, the most of any Premier League team, and are now without Thiago Silva, who is recovering from the Copa America.

Chelsea swept through Peterborough 6-0 in their first pre-season match at Cobham, as some of the club’s attacking players got into a confident mood.

Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, and Broja all scored goals in the win, but it was Hakim Ziyech’s hat-trick off the bench that stole the show.

Abraham is rumored to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with Arsenal being one of the clubs interested in the English striker.

Ziyech is another player whose future is uncertain as whispers of a transfer continue, with some rumors suggesting a loan switch to AC Milan.
