United make headway in Varane negotiations

Man United have made a breakthrough in their negotiations with Real Madrid, and a £38.5 million cost has been agreed.

According to sources in France, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Raphael Varane after reaching an agreement with Real Madrid on a £38.5million transfer fee. According to a Manchester United source quoted in Le Parisien, negotiations for the 28-year-old were ‘rapidly approaching’ a conclusion on his future.

According to the source, the two clubs have reached an agreement on the fundamentals of a deal for approximately €45 million (£38.5). Varane could be presented as an Old Trafford player as soon as the end of this week, according to reports. United had apparently already reached an agreement with the France international centre-back on a contract that would run until 2026.

In the center of his defense, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to pair Varane with captain Harry Maguire, according to the Norwegian coach. Solskjaer appears to be on track for a successful transfer window, having already addressed the club’s dearth of quality on the right wing with the signing of Jadon Sancho this summer.

Their second long-standing weakness has been the lack of a central defender to partner with England’s Harry Maguire, with Victor Lindelof struggling to match the £80m man’s qualities on the left flank. United are now on the verge of offering a solution in the shape of world-class ability, with Goal stating that a five-year contract with Varane has been agreed upon between the two parties.

The World Cup winner will earn a raise in salary and is eager to make the move to Old Trafford, however his admiration for the Spanish champs has prevented him from pushing for the transfer. Madrid have already lost Sergio Ramos to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, and their purge appears set to continue with a player who has been with the club since its inception in 2011.

As part of their preparations for a possible Kylian Mbappe transfer next summer, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are attempting to recuperate revenues lost during the Covid-19 shutdown. Times have been tough for them and their Spanish counterparts Barcelona. Barcelona hava howevr had a great summer so far with the completio of free transfers for Aguero, Eric Garcia and Depay with only rejectring their offer for a juicy Parisian package at PSG.
