De Ligt: Juventus MISS Ronaldo because he ‘goes into the box and always scores’

Juventus, Matthijs de Ligt concedes, lack a ‘hitman like Cristiano Ronaldo,’ but are growing in terms of experience, confidence, and goal production from everyone.

Although the Bianconeri defeated Udinese 2-0 thanks to goals from Paulo Dybala and Weston McKennie, coach Allegri stated that the team needs maturity and experience.

“I heard the coach say it and I understand, since we do have a lot of young players,” De Ligt told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am also a young man, at least chronologically, but I have previously played around 250 games at the senior level and so have some experience. The more games you play, the faster you mature.

“Today was a significant victory for us, and while there are still many areas for improvement, the key thing is that we won.

“We must continue to improve gradually; we have won six of our previous eight Serie A matches and are on our way.”

Juventus continue to score few goals, and De Ligt was questioned if they miss having a striker in the mold of Cristiano Ronaldo following his move to Manchester United.

“I believe so, certainly. Cristiano is the type of player who will always score when he enters the box; he seldom loses a chance. We’ve been missing it since the season began.

“We do not have a striker capable of scoring 30 goals every season, but we do need goals from everyone and everywhere, which is beginning to happen.”
