Lionel Messi will not make a surprise return to Barcelona, despite allegations that his wife is unhappy in France.
The 34-year-old only departed the Nou Camp last summer on a free transfer following Barcelona’s financial turmoil.
However, less than halfway through his debut season in Paris, the Argentine has already been linked with a return to the Catalan giants.
The speculation of a PSG exodus comes after Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, reportedly expressed her dissatisfaction with life in Paris and is putting pressure on her husband to return to Barcelona, according to El Nacional.
Three of the couple’s youngsters are apparently struggling to learn French and missing their pals in Barcelona, while Antonela misses her lifestyle and the climate in the Catalan metropolis.
Xavi and Dani Alves, Messi’s former teammates, are also apparently attempting to encourage him to return to the Nou Camp.
Despite the claims, The Sun adds that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has no intention of quitting the Ligue 1 team after only one season.
Messi has failed to reach the soaring heights predicted in the French first division, scoring only one league goal in a season marred by injury and Covid.
However, Messi’s contract with the Parc des Princes continues until 2023, and he apparently plans to honor it.
