Timo Werner, Chelsea’s striker, confesses he can’t believe he still has the support of the supporters following his goal drought.
Since joining the Blues for £53million from RB Leipzig in 2020, the German international has scored 18 goals in 79 appearances.
However, it is the number of gilt-edged chances the 25-year-old has squandered that has attracted the eye.
On YouTube, you can witness a collection of his misses.
Werner maintains, though, that he can still depend on the supporters’ support.
He told Sky Sports and Premier League presenter Lynsey Hooper: ‘At times, I’m not sure why people support me so much, because I’m a striker who wants to score but consistently misses opportunities.
‘It’s a lot of joy to play in front of the Chelsea supporters, and when they show their support, it strengthens me when I miss opportunities or face adversity.
‘I strive to give my all in every game, 100% to ensure the team’s happiness.’
According to the Premier League, Werner squandered 18 huge chances last season.
However, it was his horrifying miss against Real Madrid in the Champions League that exposed his terrible goal-scoring record.
Werner was only six yards away when goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stopped his feeble shot last March.
