Numerous Liverpool supporters happily stabbed Ben White after the photograph of him grinning in Takumi Minamino’s face resurfaced.
The image went viral after Arsenal held Jurgen Klopp’s team to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
It portrayed Minamino clutching his head in his hands after squandering an opportunity in front of the goal, as White laughed.
Liverpool fans were eager to remind White of that following the Reds’ 2-0 victory against Arsenal on Thursday night.
One even went so far as to modify the original image to depict White sobbing hysterically.
Numerous posts included the phrase ‘Is Ben White still laughing?’ as they added salt to the wounds following the Gunners’ setback.
Another user uploaded the original photograph with the caption: ‘To be honest, I don’t mind Ben White at all, but you can’t expect to be torn to bits in the second leg after behaving like this in the first.’
The Anfield Wrap just put two photographs side by side, one of White smiling at Minamino and another of the centre-back helplessly rushing towards his own goal as the ball crossed the line.
Arsenal paid £50 million for the 24-year-old in the summer and he certainly loved the rearguard action at Anfield in the first leg.
However, Thursday was a game to forget for the former Brighton player, who was exposed at times, with Diogo Jota leaving him for dead on one occasion on the left wing.
Jota scored both goals in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory, and they will face Chelsea in the final.
