Atletico Madrid will not sell in January despite speculations of an ex-Liverpool striker reuniting with Gerrard in the summer.

The Spanish club have no intention of releasing the striker, whose contract expires at the end of June.

Luis Suarez will not be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid during the current transfer window, despite speculations connecting the Uruguayan with a spectacular return to the Premier League with Aston Villa.

Suarez is thought to be keen in arranging a reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, who is currently in charge at Aston Villa.

While Suarez’s play has dipped recently, his present club has no intention of authorizing a mid-season sale.

Eldeporte has heard that Real Madrid will not release their great striker until his contract expires on June 30.

Suarez reportedly rejected bids from Brazilian heavyweights Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro, as well as an undisclosed Saudi Arabian club, according to Spanish reports.

The proposal that appears to have piqued his curiosity comes from Villa, with Gerrard personally calling him to indicate the Premier League club’s interest.

If a deal does materialize, it is expected to close in the summer, when the 34-year-contract old’s ends.

Suarez created a sensation in 2020 when he left Barcelona for Atletico Madrid, despite Ronald Koeman’s statement that he would not be considered for the upcoming season.

He quickly tried to disprove the Dutchman with a stellar season under new manager Diego Simeone, scoring 21 Liga goals and leading the Colchoneros to their first league championship since 2013, while Barcelona finished third.

The 2021-22 campaign, however, has been more difficult for the veteran, who has been sidelined by international duties for Uruguay and physical difficulties.

He has scored just seven league goals for Atleti, the latest of which came in November, and has only played 90 minutes three times.

Nevertheless, our source understands that Atletico are confident that he can recover his best form this season and will give him more time to get back to his peak, while a further contract renewal is still possible at the end of the term.
